Some private banks are issuing warnings as fraudsters are asking for banking information by pretending to be bank employees, sources said.
KBZ Bank, which has the most branches and is one of the banks used by the most people in Myanmar, issued a warning saying to be careful and avoid to give confidential banking information.
It said, "The KBZ Bank staff will never call customers and ask for banking confidential information like i/m banking username and password, OTP code, credit/debit card number, expiry date and OTP number. Therefore, if there are requests for information through phone calls, SMS and social media channels by fraudsters impersonating the bank employees and, customers are informed not to give the information.
KBZ Bank employees will never ask for customers' mobile banking passwords and OTP codes. If the customers have any doubts, they can contact the nearest bank branch or call center, which can be called 24 hours, to make confirmation.
Similarly, CB Bank said, “If fraudsters impersonate as bank employees to send OTP via e-mail and SMS messages to CB bank customers and ask them to fill in the information. It is advised to be careful not to fill it in at all. If someone encounters such a situation, he or she can contact CB bank's official contact center phone number to inquire.”
In addition, the Ayeyarwady Bank also warned that online/offline fraudulent methods can be used to access and abuse the personal information of others. Because of this, sharing or informing about bank cards, card pin numbers, saving account numbers, SIM cards connected with password, OTP, internet banking, mobile banking to others should not be done at all. If bank cards, saving accounts and cheques are lost, damaged or stolen, call center or nearby branches of the Ayeyarwady Bank's must be notified immediately and necessary actions must be taken.
