The Shan Nationalities Democratic Party (SNDP) also known as the White Tiger Party or Kya Phyu Party held its election victory campaign and public gathering on December 8 at the Sky Star Hotel in Yangon.
During the event, participants paid respects to the Union Flag of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, as well as to the party flag. Members of the Central Committee and advisors to the party chairperson were also introduced.
Afterward, party chairman U Sai Aik Paung delivered opening remarks, stating that if the White Tiger Party wins the election, it will work simultaneously for peace and national development.
“We will pursue peace and development at the same time. Peace alone is not enough. People are suffering greatly. Daily living conditions are very difficult. With the current salaries of civil servants and workers, food prices have become completely out of reach,” U Sai Aik Paung said.
He also explained that the party had transformed from the Shan Democratic Party (White Tiger Party) to the Shan and Ethnic Democratic Party (White Tiger Party) in order to work not only for regional issues but for union-wide interests. He discussed the party’s intention to register as a nationwide party to participate in the elections.
Additionally, he referred to the situation in Indonesia’s Aceh State, where natural resources were shared to secure peace, and former armed leaders became government officials through elections. He said the White Tiger Party would work toward peace in similar ways if it wins the election.
“The path to peace depends mainly on the willingness of the armed groups themselves. If they truly desire peace, it can be achieved,” he stated.
The chairman also addressed several policy priorities: the need to amend Article 261 of the Constitution, efforts to remove international economic sanctions for economic growth, and plans to help farmers reclaim confiscated farmlands that were never used for development projects.
Following his remarks, deputy general secretary U Sai Tun Lin spoke about dos and don’ts for party candidates during the campaign period. Advisor U Banya Soe and Yangon Region party chair U Nay Myo Zaw also gave guidance to candidates on strategies to secure electoral victory.
The White Tiger Party is fielding 158 candidates for the Pyithu Hluttaw (Lower House), 73 for the Amyotha Hluttaw (Upper House), 337 for the Region/State Hluttaws, and 8 for the Ethnic Affairs Minister positions in the 2025 general election.
