Sky Link, a bridge connecting between the airport car parking and terminal buildinghas been opened for the passengers on October 22, allowing travellers to go directly to Terminal 1 from the car park, according to Department of Civil Aviation (DCA).

The Terminal 1 building opened on March 12, 2016 and is a five-storey reinforced concrete and steel building that is 240 meters in length and 97.7 meter wide. It is connected with a Sky Link that is 101 meter in length and 24.48 meters in height to the airport car park.

Although the airport authorities have finished building the Sky Link, the public was disallowed to access it. Its entrance to the Terminal 1 is on level 4 floor and where duty free shops and recreational zones will be added. The main reason why the public couldn’t use the Sky Link was that the construction works on the level 4 has yet to complete.

While the duty free shops and recreational zones are yet to finish building, the Sky Link was opened for the convenience of the passengers.

The arrival and departure baggage handling area, check-in hall and counter area, arrival immigration, custom and duty free shops are included in the basement of the Terminal 1. On the first floor, passport control area, security check, departure gate lounge and duty free shops are included. Retail area is located on second floor and recreation area is included on third floor.

The development project of Yangon International Airport was approved by Myanmar Investment Commission (MIC) and it started in August 2014. The investment was about US$660 million.

According to the project plan, the old departure lounge was demolished and then rebuilt.

Pioneer Aerodrome Services Co. Ltd, a subsidiary of Asia World Company, has been granted to provide services for Yangon International Airport as well as Nay Pyi Taw International Airport.
