Chairman of the Shan Nationalities League for Democracy (SNLD) U Sai Nyunt Lwin has said a single party or leader alone cannot try to ensure peace and stability in a union or a state.

The ethnic party leader made the comment during his speech at the 75th Anniversary of Shan National Day which fell on February 7.

“In efforts to ensure peace, stability and development in the whole union or a state, a political party alone cannot have the power to manipulate. Again, it cannot be achieved by a group of people or a leader alone. A party needs to seek or discuss coordination with both other likeminded parties and opposing parties. If possible, alliance must be formed. At the least, it is necessary to debate with the parties with different opinions. Just because one wants to be leader, one cannot achieve success through one’s own party’s efforts,” U Sai Nyunt Lwin commented.

Till today, no one could have sought correct way to solving Myanmar’s complicated political problems. Currently, it will not be wrong to say that the country has entered the stage of the severest crisis and most difficult times. Such a situation will remain to a certain period, he quoted experts as saying.

“What I want to say is that we need to be united more than ever in times of crisis and help with each other. I solemnly call for union of all to overcome our crisis,” said U Sai Nyunt Lwin.

He said at a time when the people of Myanmar faced the Covid-19 pandemic, the military took over the state power, resulting in clashes and harming the security of the people and the rule of law. The people are facing job shortages and financial woes. Similarly, fighting is intensifying in Shan State. Warfare has widened while the political framework has shrunk, he added.

“Like others, our SNLD party have almost stopped its activities. There are few gatherings or contacts. However, I want to say that we are still conducting training courses and holding discussions for development. I want to say we must try to overcome all the difficulties with our unity and strength,” he said.

On the occasion of the 75th Anniversary Shan National Day, the party donated K7.5 million to various regions.
