Serium Institute of India and Myanmar medical research team signed MOU to purchase COVID-19 vaccine

Myanmar delegates arrived in India for purchase of COVID-19 vaccine is holding discussions with India officials according to Ministry of Foreign Affairs on December 24.

They discussed matters on purchasing vaccine from Serum Institute of India under the government to government plan in the early 2021. Later, they signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Serum Institute of India (SII) virtually at the Myanmar ambassador to India’s residence. Aung Aung Myo Thein, Minister Counsellor, from Myanmar Embassy also present as a witness at the virtual signing ceremony, according to the news released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Dr. Zaw Than Tun, director-general of Department of Medical Research, Ministry of Health and Sports and delegates are currently in India to purchase COVID-19 vaccine. State Counselor on her December 24 speech concerning latest situation of COVID-19 said that a Myanmar team is in India to purchase vaccine for 15 million people.She said that the number of infection is declining currently and effort must be made for decreasing the numbers more than the present amount. On the other hand, people must be vaccinated and then Myanmar will be on the normal path.
