Knife attacks took place in Thanphyuzayet Township, Mon State, for two consecutive days on November 11 and 12, leaving five men injured, according to local sources.

On the morning of November 11, two brothers were attacked with a knife by the husband of their cousin sister while harvesting paddy in a rice field of Kalein Padaw Village in Thanphyuzayet Township. The attack was reportedly related to an inheritance issue.

“There was a lawsuit over farmland inheritance. We have learnt that the two brothers won the case. Their cousin brother-in-law attacked them in retaliation,” said a local villager.

The injured were sent to the township people’s hospital by ambulances from local aid organizations.

On the morning of November 12 also, a man suffering from depression attacked two young men with a sword and tried to kill himself by slashing his throat in Panga Village in the same township. The attacker sustained serious injuries, local sources said.

“Of the two victims, one sustained neck injuries while another sustained nape injuries. The attacker was also seriously injured as he cut himself on his throat,” said a local villager.

All the injured were sent to Mawlamyine People’s Hospital via Thanphyuzayet Township People’s Hospital.
