State Counselor Aung Sun Suu Kyi, while holding an online meeting with Myaing Township administrator of Magway, Pyone Kaythi, MP of  Kalaw constituency, Ye Min Oo , Deputy Mayor of Nay Pyi Taw Council Area on May 12, said that schools must be reopened even if there is no vaccine for COVID-19.

He said that there are huge numbers of students in Myanmar schools and consideration must be made for dividing students into small groups.

“It is not possible to close schools for a long time. When opening schools, there are a lot of students in each class. Students sit close to one another. Dividing these students into small groups must be considered. Will it be possible to divide a class into three classrooms? When can we arrange this kind of arrangement? We must think of long and short terms as well. Vaccines for COVID-19 won’t come out so soon. It is not possible to close schools till there is a vaccine,” said Aung San Suu Kyi.

Trial run of online teaching for teachers of new curriculum for Grade 4, 7 and 10 has started on May 11 using an online conferencing software Zoom.
