The State Administration Council (SAC) Information Team has denied allegations that security forces burned down Kyaukpon and Khepyit villages in Sidoktaya and Pwintbyu Townships, Magway Region, forcing over 2,000 residents to flee their homes.
The denial followed reports by some media outlets claiming the incident occurred on November 28.
Citing a member of the security forces responsible for the region, the SAC Information Team stated that security personnel acted within the rules and disciplines during operations in the villages. The team emphasized that no arson was committed and reiterated the role of the security forces in protecting the lives and property of the public.
According to the SAC statement, insurgents are responsible for destabilizing the region by hiding illegally in villages, ambushing security personnel, and using public areas such as pagodas, schools, and homes as cover. The insurgents have also been accused of setting fire to wards and villages they oppose and engaging in acts of kidnapping and murder against local residents.
