The State Administration Council (SAC) has enacted a new amendment to the Union Election Commission Law, marking the third such revision since the law's inception.
The latest amendment was issued as Law No. 40/2025 under the authority of Section 419 of the 2008 Constitution.
According to the updated legislation, Section 14 of the Union Election Commission Law has been replaced to revise the structure of election bodies at various administrative levels.
The amended section stipulates that each commission must consist of not fewer than three members. These members may be either trusted individuals or civil servants, with one designated as chairperson. Additionally, the relevant election staff officer will serve as secretary of the commission.
According to the latest amendment, civil staff can be designated as chairperson in forming sub commissions at various levels.
Section 10(c) of the Union Election Commission Law outlines one of the key duties and responsibilities of the Union Election Commission (UEC). This specific sub-section focuses on the UEC's role in forming, causing to form, supervising, and causing to supervise Sub-commissions at various levels.
