A riot occurred in Myinchan prison on December 30, sources said.

The prisoners started the riot as they didn’t like being fended in their cells with barbed wire during the night time/ The Director of Correctional Department for Mandalay Region came to negotiate with the prisoners.

MP Sein Myint of Myinchan Constituency said, “The riot is finished now and almost all of their demands are fulfilled. They didn’t like having their cells fended with barbed wire at night time and prison authorities agreed to leave out a hole in the barbed wire fence. They also demanded to get aspirin in the prison. They are not allowed to use balm and ointment placed in the glass bottle and the prisoners agreed to return empty glass bottle.”

There are about 4,000 inmates in the prison and the prison riot occurred in Myinchan prison in 2016.
