Action will be taken against civil servants who hamper the handover of confiscated lands to farmers, President Win Myint said at the opening ceremony of Shwethaungyan Bridge in Pathein Township, Ayeyawady Region on October 28.

“The incumbent government has returned a total of 63,417 acres of confiscated farmlands. It has handed over 13,091 acres to farmers and 5,326 acres to respective ministries, regions and states. The government is scrutinizing the handover of seized lands in order to return the rest to farmers as quickly as possible. I would like to warn again that action will be taken against government staff who hinder the smooth operations of the handover processes. Compensations will have to be fixed fairly and squarely based on locations and time,” he added.

“Both sides should have sympathy towards each other. Fairness is the right everybody should deserve. Adherence to fairness would help strengthen the social community as well as building up democracy,” he continued.

During President Win Myint’s tour to Ayeyawady Region, the complaint department received 80 complaints.
