Local sources say rallies were held in Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon and Myawady in support of the State Administration Council (SAC) on its first anniversary on February 1.

In Nay Pyi Taw, the rallies were held on the sports grounds of Lewe, Ottarathiri, Zeyathiri, Tatkon, Pyinmana, Pobbathiri and Zabuthiri townships in support of the military and hailing the pre-Union Day that will fall on February 12. Thousands of people reportedly attended the rallies.

Likewise in Yangon, rallies were held in two places in the city centre.

A total of 199 people held a rally in front of the Yangon City Hall. They first gathered in front of Thamada Cinema and marched to the City Hall along Sule Pagoda Road holding vinyl placards reading words supporting the military.

The second rally was held in front of Yangon Stock Exchange at the corner of Sule Pagoda Road and Merchant Street. Over 100 people attended the rally, which was escorted by security forces.

Similarly, war veterans and members of their families and nationalists held a rally in Myawady, Kayin State, on the morning of February 1. Over 100 Ma-Ba-Tha (the organization safeguarding race, language and religion) members and families of the military personnel also attended the rally. They gathered at Mya Sandi Park and went round in the town.

Many shops in the town opened on February 1 as they were warned against action for any closure. However, there were very few shoppers.

Pro-military rallies were also held in Hpa-an and Kawkareik townships of Kayin State.
