A policeman and a civilian were shot dead at K2 Restaurant beside Yangon-Mawlamyine Road in Ottantar Village, Paung Township, Mon State, at about 6pm on July 22, according to local sources.
The victims were Soe Zaw Aung, a police force member of Zingyaik Police Station, and a civilian, Ko Sithu. The two were shot by two unknown gunmen while they were at the restaurant. Both died of bullet wounds at the scene.
“The civilian was an electrician living in Donsi Ward, Paung Township,” said a local resident.
The dead bodies were sent to Paung Township People’s Hospital by local social welfare associations.
On the afternoon of December 10, last year, two policemen from Zingyaik Police Station were shot dead while they were riding a motorbike on Yangon-Mawlamyine Road. A man was shot dead on the same road on March 14 this year. On 21 Mar also, a married couple on a motorbike were shot dead on the same road in Zingyaik, local sources said.
