MANDALAY- The police philanthropic team held a prayer ceremony for release of civilians being arrested by Arakan Army (AA) at Mahamuni Pagoda in Mandalay yesterday morning.

“We prayed for the release of civilians and innocent people who are being arrested by AA in Rakhine State. We and the families of detainees are virtually indivisible. As we held the prayer ceremony, the authorities will know about it. Although we submitted to hold a prayer ceremony at the pagoda under the Peaceful Assembly Law, we weren’t allowed because there were 100 prayers. However, the authorities allowed us to hold the ceremony at the Manaw Raman Square which is inconvenient place for us because there is no Buddha image at the square. So, we prayed for the release by attending only six peoples,” said Chairman Myat Thu Hein from Police Philanthropic Team.

Family members of detainees and those who wanted AA to release the innocent people also joined the prayer ceremony.

“My son Myo Ko Ko served as a Sub-inspector in the police force in Yangon for about one year. When he was assigned in Rakhine State, I never saw him within three years. Now, it is taken 28-day of his arrest. We would like to request the President and authorities to evacuate my son and his colleagues. I understand the family members of other detainees having the worries. Now, we can’t do for rescue attempts. If the high ranking officers will evacuate the detainees, it will succeed,” said the mother of Sub-inspector Myo Ko Ko who was arrested by AA.

The people who were wearing the same T-shirts written as “ The detainee civilians aren’t prisoners of war” and “Keep sympathy for their families” prayed for release of detainees.

Moreover, the prayer ceremony will be held in Shwe Sandaw Pagoda, Pyi Township, Bago Region and detainees’ families and supporters are going to join the ceremony.

The AA announced that they arrested totaling 11 people including nine police and two staff from Corruption Department under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
