Police lance-corporal shot dead in Ye Township

A police lance-corporal from Ye Township central police station in Mon State was shot dead at about 3pm on January, local reports said.

Police lance-corporal Hein Thura died on the spot after being shot on Nanda Road in Ye, a local resident said.

“Gunfire was heard several times. Then we learnt that police lance-corporal Hein Thura was shot dead. He was assigned duties to police Annawa and Nanda wards,” he added.

After the shooting, security forces arrived at the scene for checks and sent the body to Ye District People’s Hospital. 

A local armed group called Ye Bilu claimed responsibility for killing the policeman on its Facebook page.

Ye Township has seen frequent gun attacks on the police stations and forces as well as some departments, according to local sources.

The police outpost in Hnitkayin Village, Lamai, Ye Township, was attacked and incinerated on the morning of January 11 and police major Hlaing Min Thant, leader of the Ye District anti-crime team, faced a mine attack on the night of the same day. Moreover, police inspector Nyi Nyi Win from the special branch in Lamai was shot and killed, according to local sources.
