The police copied the documents related to the court’s rulings made by the judge on the discharging of suspect Aung Gyi accused of raping a young child at Wisdom Hill Nursery School in Nay Pyi Taw, according to Dekkhina District Court. 

Lawyer Khin Maung Zaw said: “As the police said in the press conference, the police itself can do nothing. The police will report it to the above. The police cannot submit it directly. The police will urge the court to appeal a verdict to the legal office.”

An unnamed police officer from Myanmar Police Force told the Daily Eleven that the police copied the documents pertaining to the court’s rulings. It will review the weak points in the rulings. He did not know the plan to appeal a verdict to the high court. 

At a press conference on December 19, the police said the release of suspect Aung Gyi was too early. The police will carry out it in accord with the law when the court’s rulings are received. 

Daw Phyu Win Latt, Deputy District Judge from Dekkhina District Court said: “The court released suspect Aung Gyi before charge as no valid pieces of evidence were found. The court ruled out as the court examined teachers from Wisdom Hill Nursery School, the victim, and her family members and the staff from the nursery school.”

Police Brig-Gen Soe Naing Oo said in a press conference that though the fact that the judiciary system has the authority to release Aung Gyi is correct, we want the judge to examine all evidence submitted by the plaintiff side.

On December 22, the Independent Lawyers' Association of Myanmar (ILAM) released a statement, saying that the ILAM will uncover the truth about the Victoria case in cooperation with local and international lawyers associations, CSO and media as there are many suspicious points which pose a challenge to the whole judiciary mechanism, suspected events, and threats.
