Pilot project aims to register, certify and classify people with disabilities

The ministry plans to start a pilot project for the registration, certification and classification of people with disabilities in order to enable them to fully enjoy their rights and protect them, said  Win Naing Tun, Director-General of Social Welfare Department under the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement. 

“As international cooperation, the ASEAN Enabling Master Plan was approved at the ASEAN Summit in November, 2018. We are drafting a five-year plan based on regional efforts for the rights of people with disabilities. We have put the sector that links the subcommittees, in this plan. It also includes social protection as well as the protection of people with disabilities in natural disasters and emergency. The ministry will start this pilot project in Nyaunglebin Township,” he added. 

“We are conducting free tests. We will carry it out in accordance with the bylaws As it is the country’s first-ever project, we may face a lot of difficulties and challenges. We can fully fulfill the rights of people with disabilities through cooperation and participation.  We have compiled standard syllabuses for job opportunities for people with visual impairments,” he continued.

Since the establishment of Rehabilitation Department, the Social Welfare Department has been working on the matters relating to the syllabus, exam tests and the issuance of certificates,  in cooperation with Japan Heart, in order to turn out the qualified massage experts, he added.
