A reinforced concrete village-to-village bridge linking Zayatkwin Village and Leitkya Village on the Mandalay–Madaya–Thabeikkyin road near Zayatkwin Village in Thabeikkyin Township, Mandalay Region, was blown up by PDF members on the morning of December 14, according to reports.

While security forces conducting area security operations in Thabeikkyin Township were approaching the vicinity of Zayatkwin Village, about 7,000 meters south of Thabeikkyin town, at around 10:50 a.m. on December 14, PDF members opened fire with small arms. The security forces returned fire, after which the PDF members retreated to the south of the village, it is reported.

During their retreat, the PDF members planted and detonated mines on the reinforced concrete bridge on the Mandalay–Madaya–Thabeikkyin road linking Zayatkwin Village and Leitkya Village. The bridge, measuring 80 feet in length and 15 feet in width, suffered damage as its supporting pillars collapsed. As a result, the bridge has become impassable for both pedestrians and vehicles.

It is reported that security forces, together with relevant authorities, will continue efforts to restore the damaged bridge so that it can be used normally again.
