A passenger airbag train departing from Mandalay to Yangon reportedly overturned after being hit by a mine on the Yangon-Mandalay railroad section in Kyaukdaga Township earlier today.

The Mandalay-Yangon No.6 up airbag express train, which began leaving Mandalay at 3:30 pm on December 12, was hit by a mine attack on early morning of December 13 between Peinzalok and Thahtaygon railway stations in Kyaukdaga Township.

"Yes, an accident happened on the railroad. It’s No.6 up highway train. The accident occurred in the place where the previous accidents also happened. That place has seen similar accidents frequently. Well, if you want to find out more, go to the place where it happened and check it out. The detail is different from what we know here in Yangon.  The train left Mandalay at 3.30 pm,” said the Yangon Railway Station master.

Due to the mine attack, the train overturned on the right side of the railroad, but no injuries were reported.

Following the mine explosion, train schedules have been suspended on the Yangon-Mandalay railroad section. Inspections and repair work are under way by relevant officials and security forces at the scene.
