
A taxi and a driver abducted and threatened to pay ransom money have been redeemed by the car owner, as stated by him.
The incident occurred on August 6, and the car taken was a Toyota Corona taxi.
The owner said, "I'm not going to tell the amount. I had to pay some millions. I would say only that".
He added that the driver was drugged and unconscious, but there were no signs of being tortured.
"The driver was unconscious. It could be due to the drugging. He sustained no injuries. Till now there are no aches and pains. There are no internal injuries. Arrangements have been made to go to the clinic on Sunday for a CT scan".
The name of the taxi driver is Ko Zaw Wei Phyoe living in Ngwe Zabei Street, Htaukkyant. On August 6 three men sitting at a tea shop hired his car and abducted him.
The car owner said that the incident was reported at the police station, but no formal complaint was made.
He said: "I just notified the police. The police asked whether I wanted to lodge a complaint. They said that if I make a formal complaint they would try to apprehend the criminals. I said that my driver is back safe and sound, and I also got back my car. So I don't want to make a formal report".
Two months back there was an incident in North Dagon Township where the driver if a taxi was beaten and the car taken away. In that incident there was a demand of a million kyats ransom money, but agreement was reached between the owner of the taxi and the robbers for K500,000, and the car was redeemed.
