Over1.6 million eligible voters, over 2,500 polling stations in Rakhine

SITTWE- In Rakhine State, there are over 1.6 million eligible voters and over 2,500 polling stations, according to the Rakhine State Election Commission.

“According to the instruction of the Union Election Commission, we are going to announce the eligible voter list on July 25th. Now, we are starting to distribute and issue of voter lists. And then, plans are underway to assign the staff, to keep the equipment and to distribute IT technology. There are a total of over 1,640,000 eligible voters and over 2,590 polling stations in the whole of Rakhine State. The voter must be 18 years old Myanmar citizen. But, prisoner and bankruptcy have no chance to cast the vote,” said Thurain Htut, secretary of Rakhine State Election Commission.

He continued that the villagers in Rakhine State had abandoned their homes due to ongoing fighting. So, there had been difficulties in collecting of voter list. The Rakhine State Election Commission would plan to send the eligible voter list of internally displaced persons to the IDP camps.

In General Election-2015, there were over 1.4 million eligible voters in Rakhine State. Now, there are over 1.6 million voters who will participate in General Election 2020.
