Over Ks2.4 bn worth of narcotic drugs seized in Mandalay

The local anti-drug squad disclosed on November 21 that more than 2.4 billion kyats worth of narcotic drugs were seized in Aungmyaythazan and PyinOoLwin townships, Mandalay Region.

At 1.30PM on November 18,the squad, acting on a tipoff, seized 33 kilograms of heroin hidden in 3,300 soap dishes with a street value of 1.2 billion kyats and 258,000 amphetamine tablets from a six-wheel bowser driven by Thei Ko Ko Oo (aka) Thei Ko, aged 25, and his companion, Aung Myo Thant (aka) Hnin Wei at Shwe Kyet Yet port,  Amarapura township, Mandalay Region. 

Upon further investigation at 8am on November 19, Zaw Tint Aung (aka) Htaw Gyi, 35, and Ye Saw Nayng (aka) Pyu Pyu (aka) Ngapyu, 29, along with a motorcycle, were apprehended near Myauktangar village, Madaya township, in connection with the transport of the drugs. In addition Saw Hmway (aka) Htun Htun Win (aka) Hmwayni was nabbed with 1 million kyats in possession on Nantthartaung school compound, 2nd  ward, Madaya.

 As per related information at 9am of November 19 a 22-wheel trailer parked near Moekyoepyit village, PyinOoLwin township,  Mandalay Region,  was searched, and 46 kilograms of heroin concealed in 4,600 soap boxes and 20,000 amphetamine tablets, altogether 79 kg of heroin and 278,000 amphetamines with a value if 2.4 billion kyats were seized.

The drugs were being transported from Shan State (North) to Sagaing Region. The perpetrators have been booked for further action, and investigations are underway to nab others in connection with this crime.
