More than 28,000 Myanmar migrant workers in Thailand returned to the country through Myawady Friendship Bridge No (2) in six days.

They re-entered Myanmar through Bridge No (2) as Bridge No (1) closed after 5,012 Myanmar workers returned through it till March 26.

Myawady District Commissioner Tay Zar Aung said COVID-19 preventive measures are being taken systematically as Myanmar migrant workers return.

Thailand has seen over 900 coronavirus cases so movements in its districts including Bangkok have been restricted. Moreover, the Thai government has shut border gates.

The restrictions started on March 26. In the morning of that day alone, over 2,300 Myanmar migrant workers returned home through Bridge No (2).

The number of returnees through Bridge No (2) was 7,023 on March 21; 5,824 on March 22; 2,357 on March 23; 3,417 on March 24; 4,517 on March 25; and 5,012 till 5.30 pm on March 26 totalling 28,150.
