Authorities managed to expose more than 2,200 drug-related cases worth over K210 billion in Shan State in over nine months, according to sources from Shan State Police Force.

The cases in nine and a half months exceeded those in the same period of last year. This year, there have been 2,210 cases in which 2,729 men and 368 women were arrested.

Of those drug cases, seizures of amphetamines numbered most with over 50 million pills seied. Most of the cases occurred in northern Shan State.

"This year sees a lot more cases amounting to over 2,200. They are worth over K210 billion. Most cases happened in northern Shan State. We seized narcotic drugs and drug-related equipment and arrested suspects depending on information we received. The whole last year saw over 2,400 cases. This year we seized a lot of precursors. We want to educate people through media about danger and consequences of narcotics. It is not good for the families of victims. If drug abuse spreads more, it is not a good sign for our community, country and world," said police inspector Htay Hlaing from Shan State Anti-Drug Police Force.

In 2017, Shan State cracked down on 2,434 drug cases with arrests of 2,901 men and 429 women.
