In a significant crackdown, authorities in Nay Pyi Taw, and other regions and states of Myanmar have confiscated more than 127 tons of illegal timber between February 11 and 18.
The Forest Department’s vigilant efforts led to the seizure of 64.0787 tons of illegal teak, 12.5784 tons of hardwood, and 51.1858 tons of other timber varieties. Alongside this substantial haul, they also apprehended 22 perpetrators and impounded 8 heavy machinery units.
This recent operation follows a pattern of increased enforcement. In the preceding week (from February 5 to February 11), over 140 tons of illicit timber were seized in the same region and states. Additionally, from January 29 to February 4, 97 tons met a similar fate. Even earlier, between January 1 and January 7, the Forest Department recorded the confiscation of more than 130 tons of illegal timber in Naypyidaw Region and neighboring states.
The Forest Department remains committed to combating illegal logging and preserving Myanmar’s precious forests.
