YANGON- Due to the Coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan, China, over 1,000 Myanmar workers from Yunnan Province asked the Myanmar Consulate General in Kunming to return them home, according to an announcement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
At their behest, the Myanmar Consulate General helped 1,057 Myanmar workers return home from different areas of the province through Kanpaikte border gate from January 28th to 30th.
Moreover, 128 Myanmar workers working in Tengchong were sent back home through Ruili-Muse border gate from January 29th.
The government approved the chartering of a plane to evacuate 63 Myanmar citizens studying in Wuhan, China in working through diplomatic ways with Chinese government.
In China, the death toll rose to 170 from the coronavirus outbreak. There are now over 7,700 people infected with coronavirus.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared a global health emergency over the coronavirus outbreak.
Governments and companies around the world are now striving to control the coronavirus with added momentum.
Some countries banned the travelers coming from Wuhan and some urged their citizens not to visit China.
The novel coronavirus has spread to at least 15 other countries outside of China, with the latest suspect case appearing in Italy onboard a cruise ship with 3,000 passengers.
The Chinese government is now trying to halt the spread of the contagious disease and effectively monitor over 50 million people from Wuhan and Hubei province.
The National Health Commission said that the rate of infected persons gradually increased and more 81,000 are now quarantined.
