More than 1,000 supporters of Arakan National Party (ANP) are rallied in Manaung today morning, according to the party.

Although the party members initially arranged to give handouts in Manaung, its supporters joined them by riding motorcycles and cars.

“Our party gave handouts in five wards in Manaung and the rally started around 8:30 am and finished at 9:30,” said Win Naing Oo, Secretary of the ANP for Manaung.

He added people in Manaung are taken interest in election more than before and more people support Rakhine parties.

“More people are nationalists in 2020 election in compared with 2015 election. They supported more for Rakhine parties. People in villages said they will give vote to the ANP. In 2015, many people supported our party but we had conflicts in each other. NLD won the 2015 election as they used their slogan “Time for change” and movies about it. Nine townships in Rakhine State are banned from the 2020 election and Rakhine people are facing armed conflicts. Although there are three Rakhine political parties in Manaung, more locals support our party. We expected we will win the election in Manaung. We drew a plan to hold a rally before November 8,” he said.

A total of 23 candidates from six political parties and six independent candidates will be competed in Manaung in 2020 general election and there are over 50,000 eligible voters in the township.
