One more returnee tests positive for COVID-19

BAGO- A person returning from Thailand via Myawady border tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total number of cases in Myanmar to 304, according to the announcement of the Ministry of Health and Sports (MOHS) issued yesterday morning.

“Case 304 is 18 years old. His health condition is stable. He returned from Thailand on June 18th through No.2 Friendship Bridge in Myawady Township. Later, he is being kept in Quarantine Center in Aha Thaw Ka monastery in Bago Region. He was not in close contact with outside people. On June 30th, we sent his swabs to the National Health Laboratory in Yangon. The MOHS announced on July 2nd that he tested positive for COVID-19, said Dr Aye Nyein from Health Officer from Bago Region.

“Case 304 is a man. His health condition is good. He was sent to Kali Hospital in Bago Region yesterday morning via Quarantine center. There are no difficulties because we had prepared in advance. He is the second COVID-19 positive patient. The first COVID-19 patient came from Nyaunglaypin Township, Bago Region, had been discharged from our hospital,” said Dr Yan Naing Maung, Medical Superintendent from Bago Region.

“The Case 304 lived in Bago Region. There was no worry because he was kept in the quarantine center since returning from Thailand. However, the volunteers who had close contact with the Case 304 have had contact with people from outside. So, we worry that other persons would be infected via the volunteers,” a local from Bago Region.

The MOHS announcement said the second batch of 393 samples tested at National Health Laboratory in Yangon and found the patient.

A total of 1,340 samples: 769 tested at the National Health Laboratory, 175 samples tested at the Department of Medical Research, 124 samples tested at Public Health Laboratory in Mandalay, and 272 samples tested at Public Health Laboratory in Mawlamyaing, were tested for the batch of July 1, it said.
