A fire broke out at a fuel station in Maubin town, leaving one person dead and five others injured, according to reports.
The incident occurred at around 12 noon on January 6 at a fuel station on 7th Street in Ward No. (5), Maubin Township, Ayeyawady Region.
“A static electricity discharge occurred while fuel was being transferred from a barrel to a plastic container using a hand pump, igniting fuel vapors in the surrounding area,” an official from the Fire Services Department said. “Five shop workers and one member of the public were injured, making a total of six—five men and one woman. One of the injured later died after being taken to hospital.”
Firefighting teams from the Maubin District Fire Station dispatched two fire engines, while three more were sent from the township fire station. A total of five fire engines and firefighters were deployed to extinguish the blaze.
