After an officer from the Presidential Palace in Nay Pyi Taw has tested positive for Covid-19, 30 people who had been in contact with him are now in quarantine, said Dr Myat Wunna Soe, deputy director general of Nay Pyi Taw Public Health Department. 

“We cannot reveal the identity of the patient. I want to say that he is a government officer living in Zabuthiri Township, Nay Pyi Taw of Union Territory, he said. 

The President Office has not released details about the case. 

According to the Facebook posts of some reporters based in Nay Pyi Taw, swabs would be taken from the reporters who attended the press conference held at the Presidential Palace held on September 4. 

Those who had close contact with the virus-infected officer are in quarantine their health checks are being conducted, the deputy director general said. 

“All those including his family members and co-workers from his office had their medical checkups conducted and they are in quarantine. There are about 30,” Dr Myat Wunna Soe said. 

Asked about the patient’s condition, he said: “He’s good. The infection was found only when he had a medical checkup. He came here not because he felt ill. His condition is not a cause of concern”. 

The officer has been sent to Nay Pyi Taw Hospital (1,000-bed) for treatment.
