Dr. Zaw Myint Maung, Vice-Chairman-2 of the ruling National League for Democracy, vowed that the ruling party will strive for a landslide victory across the nation in the 2020 general elections just like those in 2015.

The third regular meeting of second central committee of the NLD was in progress on September 22 and 23.

“We respect other parties, but it is important that democracy continues to exist. The strong party is needed to win in the elections. It is known to all that which party is the strongest in the country. We will strive for a landslide victory. Our duty is also the same matter,” said Dr. Zaw Myint Maung.

Our party won a landslide victory in the 1990 general elections with the support of the people. Since then if we had managed to form a government, our party would have led both the parliament and the government, said Dr. Zaw Mying Maung.

The NLD representatives performed tasks in legislative and administrative sectors with united efforts. This was because the NLD won a landslide victory in 2015 elections, said Tin Htut Oo, CEC member of the NLD.

“If the NLD ran with a type of coalition, our country will remain deadlocked. This point is of great importance to us,” said Tin Htut Oo.

Tin Htut Oo, the president of the meeting, urged the CEC members of the NLD to try to win a landslide victory in the elections so that a new government can be formed with sufficient Members of Parliament.

The NLD achieved a landslide victory in the 2015 elections and managed to form the Union government, but lost in most ethnic constituencies. For that reason, we lost the chance of influencing over both parliaments in the state.

The NLD won over half of the vacant constituencies in the by-elections held in 2017 and 2018, but lost in the constituencies in Mon, Chin and Rakhine States.

We will never worry about the elections in the ethnic areas even though the NLD lost there, said Nyan Win, CEC member of the NLD.
