A new four-lane road connecting Yangon and Thilawa SEZ will be opened this month, according to JICA Myanmar.

“The new road is finished and it may be opened this month or next month,” said Masayuki Karasawa, Chief Representative of JICA Myanmar.

The new road and No.3 Thanlyin Bridge were built with an ODA loan from Japanese government. The stake driving ceremony of the arched bridge in Yangon side in No.3 Thanlyin Bridge was held in February 2019.

The bridge, which will cost over US$300 million, will be built with three phases. It will connect Thanlyin and Thaketa townships and locate about 125 meters away from No.1 Thanlyin Bridge. It is 1,928 meters in length. The main bridge is 1,224 meters in length and 24 meters in width. The road approaching from Thaketa is 300 meters in length and from Thanlyin has 404 meters in length. The bridge is built with steel box girder structure and can hold a load capacity of 75 tons per vehicle.
