From February 1, 2021 to December 26, 2025, a total of 9,908 people were killed and 13,011 injured nationwide due to terrorist attacks, according to Lt-Gen Tun Tun Naung, Union Minister for Home Affairs and Chairman of the Central Committee for Counter-Terrorism.

He made the remarks at the 2025 Central Committee for Counter-Terrorism meeting held on December 29 at the Myanmar Police Force Headquarters in Nay Pyi Taw.

The minister said terrorism is evolving alongside political, social, and technological changes. Citing the Global Terrorism Index (GTI), he noted a shift from traditional methods to high-tech hybrid tactics, including increased use of drones by non-state actors. In Myanmar, terrorist groups have used drones to attack civilians and destroy infrastructure, while also exploiting cyberspace for propaganda and fundraising.

He added that terrorists have targeted not only their critics but also civilians seeking peaceful lives, resulting in the deaths of monks, nuns, local administrators, government staff, women, and children. Records show that 7,598 buildings and properties were destroyed during the same period.

The meeting also discussed ongoing terrorist threats, implementation measures, documentation and approval matters, and issues related to the National Counter-Terrorism Strategy, with officials from relevant committees, task forces, and police units in attendance.
