In an attempt to reduce stress during COVID-19 pandemic, Myeik prison department held a beauty pageant contest for the female inmates on January 3.

“As we are in the pandemic, prisoners’ families will be worried about them. To ease their worry and to ease the stresses of the inmates and their families, we wanted to show them that we are in a good situation.  To make them happy, we held a beauty pageant before Independence Day. We, the male officers, didn’t involve or view the contest. Only the female prison officers viewed and decided the winner. Although they are in the prison, not everyone is a sinner,” said Saw Moshay, assistant director of Myeik Prison Department.

The beauty contest was held within the walls of the prison and 25 female inmates participated in the contest. Winners were presented with foodstuffs.
