Myanmar's third largest Thiri Thumana Bronze Bell to be kept at Mogok Vipasasana Mediation Centre in Sagaing has been cast in Mandalay, said bronze caster Aung Than Maw.

The bell was cast with over 16,000 viss (57,600 pounds) of bronze at a cost of over Ks-600 million on full moon day of Pyatho (January 9) to commemorate the 75th birthday of abbot of the meditation centre U Sumana.

"The bronze bell was cast for its offering to the Buddha in commemoration of the 75th birthday of the Sayadaw (the monk). He was first to have the bronze bell cast with about 5,000 viss of bronze. But later on, he could accumulate over 6,000 viss. He had to collect the bronze for about five years," said Aung Than Maw.

He said it took seven months to cast the bell and accepted to do casting work over a year ago.

The bronze bell is 15 feet in height and nine feet in diameter.

Migun Bell weighing 55,555 viss of bronze in Sagaing is the largest while King Tharyawady Bell weighing 26,000 viss of bronze in Yangon is the second largest in Myanmar.
