Myanmar’s inflation rate hit record high of 12.93% in June

The inflation rate of Myanmar reached a record high of up to 12.93% in June 2022, which is the highest ever throughout history, according to the Central Statistical Organization (CSO). 

In June, the annual rate of inflation was 12.93% and the year on year inflation 19.42%.

In 2021, the monthly inflation rate was 2.61% in February, 2.28% in March, 2.17% in April, 2.27% in May, 2.40% in June, 2.80% in July, 3.20% in August, 3.64% in September, 4.34% in October, 5.23% in November, and 6.22% in December. This year, the inflation rate was 7.30% in January, 8.35% in February, 9.57% in March, 10.72% in April, 11.79% in May and 12.93% in June.

The annual rate of inflation in the third quarter of 2021-2022 fiscal year was 15.05% and the year on year inflation rate 15.06%.

The annual rate of inflation in the first quarter of 2021-2022 fiscal year was 11.39% and the year on year inflation rate 11.39%.

With the period from October 1 to September 30 in the 2020-2021 FY, the annual inflation rate was 1.08% between October 1 and December 31 in 2020, 1.63% between January 1 and March 31 in 2021, 5.02% between April 1 and June 30, and 6.83% between July 1 and September 30.

The CSO conducted a family income and food consumption survey of 32,669 samples of households from 82 townships in November 2012 so as to calculate consumer index rates and inflation rates.
