On February 19, 2025, officials from Myanmar, Thailand, and China met in Mae Sot, Thailand, to enhance their cooperation in addressing online scams and gambling. The key focus was on expediting the process of transferring foreign nationals involved in criminal activities such as telecom fraud to their home countries through Thailand.
Representatives from Myanmar included Police Major General Tin Ko Ko, Deputy Chief of Police, leading the delegation from the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Myanmar Police Force. Thailand was represented by Narongchai Jindaphan, Deputy Governor of Tak Province, while China sent Liu Ning Ning, Deputy Director of the Crime Investigation Department from the Ministry of Public Security.
The discussions centered on strengthening joint efforts to combat online scams and gambling. The three countries emphasized the need for streamlined procedures for the swift repatriation of offenders, coordinated through a task force that will create an action plan to address these issues.
The meeting also highlighted the importance of effective collaboration between the countries involved, ensuring that foreign nationals implicated in these crimes could be rapidly transferred through Thailand to their respective nations.
