Myanmar signs Middle Paunglaung Hydropower project with Russia

Myanmar signed the Notice to Proceed (NTP) with PTG Energy Company for the development of the Middle Paunglaung Hydropower project, according to the Ministry of Electric Power.

Union Minister for Electric Power U Thaung Han and Union Minister for Energy Myo Myint Oo who attended the Russian Energy Week International Forum held in Moscow, Russia met with General Director Alexey Yakovlev from Inter RAO-Export Company, which is a major, power Generation Company in Russia. Later, they signed an agreement for implementation of Middle Paunglaung Hydropower project as a gesture of goodwill relations between Myanmar and Russia.

The Middle Paunglaung Hydropower project is a RCC concrete type dam which is being built on Paunglaung River about 20-mile distance from north-east of Pyinmana Township and it can generate 530.4million kilowatt hours of electricity.

The Ministry of Electric Power said that the Middle Paunglaung Hydropower project is one of the five hydropower projects and it will be running in 2026-27.
