Myanmar sees surge in licensed overseas employment agencies
Published 21 February 2024

The count of overseas employment agencies has increased by six, bringing the total number of licensed foreign employment agencies in Myanmar to 547, as reported by the Ministry of Labour.

According to the ministry’s published list, six additional overseas employment agencies were included before the end of February, surpassing the previous count of 541 licensed foreign employment agencies listed at the end of January.

Among these 547 licensed agencies, some have faced temporary suspension of their business licenses. Agencies temporarily closed for six months include Mon Angela Thi Company, New Three Diamond Company, and Shwe Lwin Lwin Company. Agencies closed for one year include Diamond Bagan General Service Company, JMK Services Company, Phyu Sin May Company, Shwe Phyo Thar Company, Top Choice Company and Win Phyo Aung Company.

Currently, many of Myanmar’s young individuals seeking employment abroad are actively exploring opportunities in the foreign job market.

Interestingly, the number of licensed foreign employment agencies has grown significantly. Before 2021, there were just over 300 licensed agencies, but in a span of more than three years, this count has surged to over 500.
