Myanmar, Russia discuss enhancement of friendly relations and cooperation between two navies

Chairman of the State Administration Council Senior General Min Aung Hlaing received a delegation led by Admiral Nikolai A Evmenov, Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, at Zeyathiri Beikman in Nay Pyi Taw on November 4.

Senior-General Min Aung Hlaing and Admiral Nikolai A Evmenov talked about the enhancement of friendly relations and cooperation between the two armed forces of Myanmar and Russia. They also frankly exchanged views on cooperation in defence affairs between the two navies, exchanged goodwill visits of naval vessels and senior naval officers between two navies of both countries and plans to conduct a joint exercise for maritime security between two navies of both countries.

Both sides discussed the learning of military officers from Myanmar Tatmadaw in the Russian Federation, the cultural exchange between the two armed forces, and further promotion of cooperation.

Present on the occasion were Lt-Gen Ye Win Oo of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army), Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Admiral Moe Aung and senior military officers. The Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy was accompanied by the Russian Ambassador to Myanmar Mr Iskandar Azizov, senior military officers from the Russian Armed Forces and the Russian Military Attaché to Myanmar.

Admiral Nikolai A Evmenov and the delegation were also welcomed by the guard of honour in front of Bayint Naung Villa in Nay Pyi Taw on November 4. Next, Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Admiral Moe Aung met with the Russian delegation in the reception hall of Bayintnaurg Villa.

They also discussed the conditions that will further enhance the existing friendship between the two navies, the training issues, holding of navy-to-navy talks, and the conditions that will increase the cooperation between the two navies of the two countries.

Together with Admiral Moe Aung were Lt-Gen Zwe Win Myint and high ranking officials from Myanmar’s Navy. The Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy was accompanied by Colonel Sergey Kurchenko and officials.

At present, Russian Navy ships of 800 crew arrived in Yangon on November 2 to conduct a Myanmar-Russian maritime security exercise.
