Myanmar has 17.8 million acres of paddy fields and produced around 27 million tons of paddies annually, announced Central Statistics Organization by quoting the Department of Agricultural Land Management and Statistics (DALMS).

Myanmar produced over 27.5 million tons of paddies in 2018-19 FY and it broke the record within five-year time, according to the DALMS.

The increase of income for farmers is directly related with the economic development of Myanmar and although Myanmar has many farmlands, only few of them are used, said Dr Maung Aung, Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation.

The ministry is planning to increase the production of top quality agricultural products, fishery products and meat in line with demand and they are inviting foreign investors to make investment.

The ministry is setting policies to produce crops and meats in line with international standards.

Myanmar citizen must invest minimum 20% of share equities in the form of a joint-venture company in agricultural sector, according to Myanmar Investment Commission (MIC).
