Myanmar migrant workers are flocking to the country via Myanmar-Thai Friendship Bridge-2 on 22 March after the closure of Myanmar-Thai Friendship Bridge-1.
On 21 March, Thailand temporarily closed Myanmar-Thai Friendship Bridge-1 in order to contain the spreading of COVID-19.
Myanmar migrant workers are pouring into the country as worries increase over the lockdown. This comes after the news that Myanmar-Thai Friendship Bridge-2 will remain open only for trade matter.
A returnee said: “I find it difficult to go home via the Bridge-2. To tell the truth, I want to go home via Bridge-1. I rushed here as I hear the Bridge-2 will close.”
An official of the health department said health workers are conducting temperature screenings on all returnees.
Myanmar has started spraying disinfectant on the construction materials imported from Thailand.
