The State Administration Council (SAC) has announced that 20 Chinese citizens, including a fugitive wanted by China named Chen Ta Wei, who played key roles in telecom and internet fraud gangs, have been handed over to Chinese authorities.
The SAC also reported that, in cooperation with the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Myanmar Police Force, and the Chinese Ministry of Public Security, continuous efforts have been made to exchange information between the two countries to expose and apprehend criminals, particularly those involved in online scams and fraud.
This collaboration led to the discovery and arrest of criminals operating in Yangon and Mandalay, including fugitive Chen Ta Wei, in July 2024. In total, 20 Chinese nationals, including Chen Ta Wei, were captured.
On September 19, 2024, these suspects, escorted by Chinese police, were deported to China to face further legal action, according to the SAC.
The Ministry of Home Affairs and the Myanmar Police Force continue to investigate and take effective measures against online scams, aiming to prevent and combat online gambling and fraud operations in Myanmar’s border regions.
The SAC further stated that cooperation with law enforcement agencies in neighboring countries will continue, following domestic laws and procedures, to curb such illegal activities.
