Electricity production rate is reduced to over 11 megawatts within three months time and Myanmar only produced 3,226 megawatts on December 14, according to figures from the Ministry of Electricity and Energy.

Electric consumption in Yangon Region is about 1,249 megawatts on December 14, 525 megawatts in Mandalay Region, 130 megawatts in Nay Pyi Taw and 1,328 megawatts in the remaining regions and states.

Myanmar is planning to generate additional 3,000 megawatts of electricity within three years time, said Win Khaing, Union Minister for Electricity and Energy on March 16.

The electricity requirement is increased about 19 per cent more (about 300 or 500 megawatts) annually.

Myanmar invested over Ks2.327 trillion in electricity sector within about three years time and generated over 900 megawatts of electricity more. It is planning to produce over 1,000 megawatts of electricity more in mid 2020.

“The government allocated state budget in electricity sector as a priority since it took charge. The ministry built three hydropower plants, six thermal energy plants and one solar power plant from April 2016 to December 2019 and 904 megawatts of electricity more are produced,” said President Win Myint in a ceremony to mark the achievement of 50 per cent nationwide electrification.
