Myanmar doubles mobile data prices as of Dec 8

Internet data prices have almost doubled as of December 8, according to users.

The price of internet data packages sold by local telecommunications companies such as MPT, Ooredoo, Telenor and Mytel has gone up.

The changes in price of data packages are Ks 979/999 for 515 MB of internet data and Ks 1,799 for 935 MB in MPT, Ks 999 for 525 MB of internet data and Ks 1,999 for 1 GB of internet data in Ooredoo, Ks 999 for 525 MB of internet data, Ks 1,599 for 845 MB of internet data and Ks 1,999 for 1 GB of internet data in Telenor and Ks 968 for 512 MB of internet data and Ks 2,400 for 1,265 MB of internet data in Mytel.

Previously, MPT charged Ks 935 for 935 MB of data, Ooredoo and Telenor charged Ks 999 for 925 MB of data and Mytel 920 MB for 968 Kyats.

In addition to the increase in internet data rates, telecom operators are also expected to increase call rates, according to users.

Ooredoo previously offered Ks 999 for 90 minutes for any net call package, which can make calls to any telecommunications network, but now it has increased it to Ks 999 for 75 minutes.

Telecom companies have been sending messages to customers before December 8 that they will soon change the price of phone calls and internet plans in line with a directive issued by the Ministry of Transport and Communications.
