Myanmar can't fulfill 50 percent of its electricity requirement as implementation of major electricity production projects halt says SAC Chairman

Chairman of SAC Senior-General Min Aung Hlaing said that as implementation of major electricity production projects were halted, Myanmar couldn’t fulfill 50 percent of its electricity requirement.

He said these words at the meeting with Union Level officials and Union Ministers at the SAC Chairman office in Nay Pyi Taw on August 8.

At the meeting, he said that it is necessary to get sufficient electricity in a country. There are many electricity requirements in the country and till now, it can’t fulfill 50 percent of its electricity requirement.

Some major electricity projects implemented in last decades were stopped due to various reasons. If we implemented these projects, there would have been enough electricity in the country and so, we may fulfill electricity requirement of the country, he said.

Therefore, electricity requirement is a challenge for the government. In the meantime, electricity has been producing from solar, wind power and from husk of paddy, he added. Only when there is sufficient electricity in the country, socio-economic lives of people will develop. Therefore, the government must implement food sufficiency, smooth in transportation, to have higher education, well-being and longevity of people and to have enough electricity as priority projects.

Present on the occasion were Vice-Senior General Soe Win, members of SAC, Union Level Officials, Union Ministers, Chief Ministers from States and Regions, senior-officials from Commander in Chief Office, deputy ministers and departmental heads.
