A signature campaign was conducted in Mudon Township, Mon State, calling for the re-selection of township parliamentary candidates for the 2020 general election as they dislike those chosen by the National League for Democracy (Central), said local NLD supporters.

“Today (July 26), we are conducting the signature campaign because things did not happen as we voters have expected. Local residents and civil society organizations have gathered here to collect signatures because they don’t like the candidates selected by the central NLD. This is not for personal affairs. There is no achievement they have made in five years of their term. So we want other new candidates to run for the upcoming election. Now that the selected candidates are the old ones, many town dwellers are concerned that history will repeat. This is why we are collecting signatures in opposition of three parliamentary candidates selected for Mudon Township,” said campaign organizer Zaw Min Oo.

He said the NLD had chosen four parliamentary candidates for Mudon Township and one of them, Dr Phone Wai Oo for the State Parliament Constituency N]o (2) was acceptable.

The collected signatures will be sent to the NLD (Central), said local resident U Myint.
