Paddy purchasing teams plan to buy paddy for regions having difficulty in selling paddy at the floor price fixed by leading committee for farmers rights, protection and interests promotion , according to Myanmar Rice Federation (MRF).
On October 15, the leading committee for farmers rights, protection and interests promotion led by Vice-President 2 announced for the floor paddy price for 2019 monsoon paddy and 2020 summer paddy, with the permission of the government.
Since 2017, the MRF has been making efforts for the emergence of a system that fixes the floor paddy price. The MRF believes that this system can contribute to the sustainable development of the whole paddy supply chain and the whole paddy business.
The MRF calls on the authorities to buy paddy at the market price for the paddy whose market price is above the floor price and to buy paddy at a price of Ks500,000 for paddy meeting the standard of 14 percent moisture content and 46 pounds (equivalent to 100 baskets). The MRF also urges paddy entrepreneurs, merchants and companies to cooperate in this scheme.
The MRF will also cooperate in paddy purchasing and storage.
Farmers who face difficulty in selling paddy at a floor price may contact the MRF’s township agents and head office.
The fixing of floor paddy price in accordance with the provisions enacted in the Law of Protection of the Farmer Rights and Enhancement of their Benefits, aims to ensure the emergence of fair market and fair price.
