MYAWADY-Although Thailand closed its some factories due to deadly Coronavirus occurred in Wuhan, China, nearly 1,000 Myanmar MoU workers daily leave for Thailand.

Myanmar sends its hundreds of labours to Thailand as MoU workers because there have been many factories in Thailand as well as Thailand had to give wage increase to the workers.

However, the coronavirus outbreak impacted factory shutdown and hotel industry. Therefore, the mount of jobless increased and workers returned back their homes.

“Myanmar workers are now doing in restaurants, hotel and tourism industry. Some are working at the factories operating jointly by Thailand and China. In my opinion, the Wuhan coronavirus may impact of our migrants,” said Htoo Chit, executive director of Thai-Myanmar Education Development Foundation.

About 800 Myanmar workers left for Thailand on February 18th aiming to do in the garment industries, sea food production and construction sites.

In the past, the amount of male workers increased. Now, the number of female workers rose than the male labours.

Many female labours are now working at the factories and other industries except the construction site.

Although there were only 150,000 Myanmar workers doing in Thailand as a MoU system in 2018, there are over 200,000 workers leaving for Thailand in 2019.

There are about four million Myanmar workers working around the Thailand.
