The Mon war relief organization is urged donors to connect with them to support aid from both domestic and foreign sources to the displaced people from the Gyaing river basin, including some villages in Kawkareik Township of Kayin State and villages in Kyaikmaraw Township of Mon State.

During the final week of March, the local police station in Kawbain Village, Kawkareik Township, Kayin State, was attacked and occupied by the revolutionary groups, and fierce fighting broke out in the Gyaing river basin area, and thousands of local people were forced to leave their homes to flee the war.

As the local people who had to leave their homes to escape the war, there are also some people who have gone and are living as far as Yangon In addition to Mawlamyine, Belukyun (Chaungsone), Kyaikmaraw, Mudon. Due to these conditions, there are difficulties in compiling the lists of those who have left their homes, and there are discrepancies in the household and population statistics, said an official of the Mon war relief organization.

He continued, "There is a list in the respective village administrative bodies, a list compiled by locals, the list collected by Thaton District of New Mon Party and the list compiled by the Mon war relief organization, so we are struggling with the lists. Some are fleeing from the war, but there are still families whose names are not included in the list. There are also those who have registered after receiving support materials."

He also said that the war refugees have contacted the relevant organizations due to the news that local and foreign organizations are coming to help the local people who are fleeing from the war and donating materials.

"Recently, according to the lists collected earlier, only priority levels are being supported. Also, because the lists are being compiled again, we need to encourage the families of the war victims who have not yet registered to come and register with the war relief organization," he said.

On July 10, the ASEAN Coordinating Center for Humanitarian Assistance on disaster management (AHA Centre) visited and donated humanitarian aid materials to the locals of Gyaing river basin in a ceremony held at the Mon Pariyati Monastery in Mawlamyine.

On July 15, the Myanmar Red Cross Society (Mon State) and the Mon war relief organization cooperated to donate the aid materials to the families who were left out at the monastery in Than Galaung Village of Kyaikmaraw Township.

However, there are still hundreds of local people who have left their homes and fled the war, who have not been included in the list collected by the relevant organizations, according to the war relief organization.
